Will I be notified if there are class cancellation?

In the rare event a class is canceled due to low enrollment or inclement weather, we will notify you no later than 1 hour before the class’ commencement and a make-up class will be scheduled. In the event of inclement weather that begins while a class is in session, class will be moved either indoors or in our shaded area. As the weather is out of our control, we cannot offer credits for classes that are moved in our indoor or shaded area.

What if I am late for a class?

We encourage you to arrive punctually (not too early either or you’ll see a bunch of people scrambling frantically across the studio) for your registered class. If you are aware that you and/or your child is going to be late, please do let us know so we can alert our facilitators of your late arrival and keep aside the necessary art supplies/ sensory materials for your child.

What to Bring

What do I bring to class?

For our outdoor classes, we encourage your child to carry along a water bottle, sunscreen (for when it gets warm outdoors), towel,  a fresh change of clothes, some bath toiletries, mosquito spray/repellent. Hats and footwear are recommended but optional for especially warm days.

You’ll need to pack pretty much the same things for our indoor sessions, with the exception of a hat or sunscreen.

Can I bring a stroller?

Yes. We ask that strollers be parked outside of our space or in our outdoor foyer to keep the space clear in the event of a fire or other emergency.

Class Information

Can I leave my toddler (8mo to 3 yrs) with a guardian?

Yes. All children under 4 years must be accompanied by at least one adult at all times. The accompanying adult need not be a parent. Grandparents, other relatives or nannies are welcome to accompany your child.  We have a strict one adult one child policy. All additional adults may wait in the waiting area while the class is in session.

Can I leave my child (4+ to 10 yrs) without guardian?

Drop off is applicable for all participants above the age of 4. Your child does not need to be accompanied by an adult during any sessions. If you or a guardian wishes to wait for your child as he/she completes a class, you/they are most welcome to stay!  Please note that we implement a strict one adult one child policy. All additional adults may wait in the waiting area while the class is in session.

What is the student/teacher ratio?

Children feel encouraged and challenged as we strive to maintain a ratio of 1:4. There are at least two teachers in sensory/ art classes regardless of how small the group is.

What is the class size?

There are limited spots for each class. All  classes have a maximum capacity of 9 students to ensure that all our participants receive the best form of guidance and facilitation.

Will the class activities be messy?

1000% yes. Art can be very messy for this age. Everything we use is “washable” but in our experience that doesn’t always mean it won’t stain. We have aprons available but many children find those to be restricting and will flat out refuse to wear one. Old play clothes are recommended—for both of you!

We also encourage parents/guardians accompanying their children during sessions to refrain from wiping their child with tissues or towels too frequently. Unless they have explored touching sensory materials before, expect your child to be bothered by having sensory materials on their hands. That is normal because all they’ve known is that mess is a “bad” thing (dirt, food, etc.) and are used to getting that wiped right off.

Encourage them to believe that  it’s ok to get  their hands messy in sensory class! Sometimes just distracting them with other suggestions when they request for you to wipe their hands is all a child needs to forget about it for a minute and move on to something else.  Remember that sensorial explorations are meant to engage all sensations—including touch, and constantly cleaning your child may take away from the whole learning experience.

What is the parent/guardian expected to do while accompanying their child during sensory sessions?

Our Baby/ Toddler classes are very open-ended. We set up approximately three/ four different sensory stations or invitations to create. There is usually one sensory activity, or an art project with a sensory component. We always have two teachers and will give you a quick overview of the projects/materials when you arrive and then you’ll be free to move around at your own (or toddler’s) pace.

We’ll be buzzing around to make sure everyone is having fun, refreshing materials, interacting/playing with the little ones, and helping you wherever possible. Best thing you can do is dive right in with them or take a gazzilion insta worthy photographs for guaranteed oohs and aahs.

How do I make sure that my baby/toddler gets the best out of his/her sensory experience?

First rule of thumb is to keep your cool and have an open mind. Every child is different in their temperaments and attention spans. If your child feels the need to run around or roll around the floor or do everything except the activity at hand—let them. You’d be surprised what they are taking in and processing. You can help them by encouraging them, cheering them on, playing with them, showing them how to use the materials (but not doing it for them), using words to build their vocabulary, and re-engaging them if they lose interest or have a short attention span. We’ll be there to help with all that too!

For kids 2.5 – 3ish, you can challenge them a bit further with prompts like “Oh! look at all those circles you just painted – how many are there?”, “What does the oobleck feel like?” and “Can you find something round, bumpy, shiny, etc.?” You get the picture. The biggest challenge with toddlers is keeping their attention and keeping them engaged. They would never have the attention span to do one activity for 45 minutes, but on the other side of the coin, sometimes knowing that there are several activities to pick from can cause them to have an even shorter attention span.

However, we discourage you from saying things like: “Ok! Are you all done with this project?” and rush them to move on to another station before they are ready. Conversely, if they only spend two seconds on an activity and declare they’re done, you can challenge them to spend more time on an activity by prompting them with things like: “You’re not done! You haven’t used the green paint” – “I don’t see any circles – why don’t you pick three circles to glue on” – etc. And if all else fails, sometimes you just need to chase them around for a minute —that’s completely OK!

Will the children be able to take their artworks home?

Children own 100% creative license to their creations. We typically display their works up until the end of a monthly session to show everyone what they have been up to or to wait for their works to completely dry. They are very much allowed to take anything they have created in the walls of the atelier back home to impress everyone around them. Should they feel particularly proud of an artwork and wish to display it in the studio for a little longer, we will be more than happy to make some room! Artworks that are kept in the studio will eventually be repurposed into raw materials for future art making.

How come my child’s art creation doesn’t look like, well... anything?

Remember that each child creates their own project without the meddling pencil strokes of a teacher. Process art is art that is not fixated on the product, but on the process, or creative journey. We may have a suggestion of what a project could end up looking like (for example, an animal collage) but there is no “right or wrong” way to use the materials and we certainly don’t expect everyone to make something that looks like an animal at all! It’s truly amazing what kids can do with a little guidance and enthusiasm—a bunch of squiggles to us may mean an entire world to them.

Health, Safety & Privacy

Are all sensory/ art materials used in the classes safe for children?

Mostly everything we use in our baby/toddler class is non-toxic and edible since it is very common for sensory oriented children to learn by touching and tasting. A sip of shaving foam or gnawing on a wax crayon shouldn’t harm them, but definitely keep an eye to watch what they put in their mouths, particularly with regard to smaller items which may be choking hazards.

We use premium quality art materials in our art classes for older children. Though not edible, they are most certainly safe to the touch and to work with.

What if my child has a severe allergy/medical condition/special needs?

Please notify us if your child has a special need or allergy by filling the correct fields during registration so we can accommodate them accordingly. Alternatively, you may alert us on WhatsApp or email.

Since we are advocates of inclusive classrooms, children with special needs are most welcome to participate. They will need to be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian, regardless of their age.

What if my child gets an injury during the session?

In all cases of emergency, the child's welfare will be the primary focus and every attempt will be made to immediately reach the Parent/Guardian or designated caregiver. We have a first aid kit always at the ready in our center and will administer reasonable medical care to an injured student.

Will my child’s photographs/videos/artworks be published on social media or other media platforms?

Your child and/or his work may be photographed or captured on video for documentation purposes. He/she may also intentionally or unintentionally be featured in social media posts. If you are uncomfortable with this and would prefer we maintain your child’s privacy, kindly let us know.
